Jan. 7-10, 2005 Snowshoe, WV

For those riding the bus, the pick up will be at the Ingle’s Grocery Store on Emory Road, just East of I-75.  This is the same location as last year.  The bus will be in the parking lot at 12:30 pm on Friday.  The bus will depart promptly at 1:30 pm.  Please arrive early so that we can pack the bus.  You may leave your car in the parking lot over the weekend.  There will be room inside the bus for small coolers.  We ask that you bring your own drinks and snacks.  We will make a dinner stop in West Virginia at a location offering several fast food choices.
On Monday, we will leave Snowshoe around 12:00 noon, again stopping for dinner, and we should be back in Knoxville between 9:00 and 10:00 pm.

Distant Ski Trips

It's Time To Ski!  At the time of this publication, pre-trip parties for the first of our Western trips have just concluded.  Tickets have been handed out and some very happy skiers are excited about the snow out West.  I have heard reports that chest high powder conditions have been common in Crested Butte, CO this week.  In the past week, six feet of snow has fallen in Sun Valley, Idaho.  It would be hard to remember a better year for snow than what we are experiencing this season.  The Distant Trip Committee wishes each of you a safe and wonderful ski experience this year.
If you have any suggestions or complaints, please do not hesitate to contact Mike Murdaugh, 588-1845 or Jeanette Steinbacher, 966-8656.  We cannot deliver the snow or make the airlines deliver you to the front door of your condo, but we do want your ski experience with the Knoxville Ski Club to be the best it can be.

Jan. 22-29, 2005 Big Sky, MT

We're ready to go on the first western KSC trip of the year to Big Sky, Montana.  The trip is filled, however there may be cancellations, so don't hesitate to contact me if you want to go.  We need 8 more snowmobiles in order to have 2 groups of 10 for Yellowstone.  This gives us the option of going two different routes in Yellowstone and the group being solely KSC.  E-mail Mary Nell Biehler ([email protected]) for snowmobile information.  Stan Roden, Trip Captain, 389-5167, [email protected].
Jan. 29 - Feb. 4, 2005 Crested Butte, CO

We have first class accommodations where you walk out your door onto the lifts.  We have the convenience of flying right to the resort.  No long distance land travel.  And the ambiance of a quaint ski resort is something to relish along with the superb deals on lift tickets and rentals.  And above all, we have an accomplished trip leader in Rhonda Peters who will provide an itinerary that will add excitement to your ski experience - lots of dining, shopping, and other fun activities to combine with the terrific skiing atmosphere.  Additionally, Ron Wyrick, assistant trip leader, has agreed to help any beginner skiers with some instructions (whatever that is worth).  So what else can you ask for?  For additional details, contact Rhonda Peters, (865)777-1055 or Ron Wyrick, (865)693-4985.
Feb. 12-19, 2005 Vail, CO

Come join KSC and see why SKI magazine once again ranked Vail the #1 overall ski resort in North America!  Round trip air on Delta to Denver, with a great schedule.  Large 2BR/2BA condos at Sun Vail, all condos with gorgeous views of Vail Mtn.  Some alternate rooming combinations exist, please ask if interested.  Included ski lockers right in Lionshead, next to the Eagle Bahn Gondola.  Round trip transfers, including a stop at the famous Applejacks for "supplies".  Access to FOUR other mountains with your lift ticket, including Beaver Creek, Breckinridge, Keystone, and A-Basin (in other words, you won’t get bored!).  Cost is $1120.  Contact Trip Captain Kerry Waldbauer for space availability, 671-8845 or [email protected].
Feb. 25 - Mar. 6, 2005 Meribel (Les Trois Vallees), France
Paris add-on, returns Mar. 8

It was back in 1936 when Peter Lindsay first visited Les Allues.  He was overcome by the valley's beauty and tranquility and decided to set up a company to develop a brand new ski resort.  Nearly 70 years on and we see Meribel as it is today.  One of the most popular ski resorts in the world.  Part of the three valleys, Meribel contains 94 miles of groomed runs and 17 miles of itineraries.  Comprised of 9 blacks, 21 reds, 33 blues, 11 greens, 2 Olympic runs, 1 slalom stadium. and 2 great snowboard areas.
A ski holiday in Meribel offers everything you could possibly want.  There are numerous bars, ranging from sophisticated wine bars to good old fashioned pubs, and not forgetting the infamous Dicks T bar nightclub.  Food wise, Meribel has restaurants ranging from gourmet cuisine to traditional savory dishes.
If the purpose of your skiing holiday in Meribel is not just to ski, then there are a host of other activities such as swimming, skating on the Olympic ice rink, rock climbing, snow biking, paragliding, mountain flying, and much more, plus a great range of shops to wander around in the village.  There is also a walker's pass available for you to experience the views at the top of the mountains and numerous restaurants to allow you to eat and view the paradise resort that is Meribel.  So, get ready for a trip that can only be described as the "ultimate" KSC trip.

Mar. 12-19, 2005 Sun Valley, ID

There can be only one original.  And since 1936, Sun Valley has held that distinction.  Born out the desire to bring the magic of the European ski resorts to America, Sun Valley quickly became a phenomenon, without peer on this continent or any other.  This trip is a favorite with the Knoxville Ski Club.
We originally acquired 52 spaces but have expanded the trip to 58 and currently have a wait list.  Occasionally, a cancellation or two becomes available so if you are interested, better call soon and get on the wait list.  We have deluxe condominium accommodations and air all the way to Sun Valley on Delta Airlines.  This trip will be very special at an unbelievable price of just $ 958 per person/double occupancy.  Contact Mike Murdaugh, [email protected],  228 Golf Club Road, Knoxville, TN 37919, (865) 588-1845.  Send a deposit of $958.  Your check will not be deposited until a space becomes available.
Mar. 19-26, 2005 Park City, UT

Groomers, bumps, bowls, powder, peaks, and parks.  Whatever you want to ski, it's here in the Park City area, ideally situated within minutes of 3 world-class ski resorts and close to all the night life in the town of Park City too.  The area receives over 500 inches of snow annually, so there should be plenty of snow left for us at the end of March, and maybe even a fresh coat of powder still!
Park City, Deer Valley, and the Canyons are the three resorts you'll be able to ski this week.  You probably know Park City and Deer Valley well, but don't overlook the Canyons!  After some big upgrades for the 2002 Olympics, they are the biggest of the three resorts in the area and welcome both skiers and boarders.  Park City is an old favorite with a good mix of terrain, and Deer Valley has the best groomed terrain around, and is one of the last remaining snowboard-free resorts in the country.
Space & Rates:  We've got space reserved for 32.  We were full, but now have 1 spot available (due to an injury) at the package price.  Beyond that, we can't add airline seats due to unavailability, but if there is additional interest I have "land only" spaces, where you supply your own airfare and transportation, as we still have 3 hotel rooms available, room for 3 families or 6 single people.  The land only rate is $514 per adult.  Please contact Colleen Montgomery for more information, 694-9154, or [email protected].
